The village Hammenstedt, with a population of 1109 (status January 2007), is situated between Northeim and Katlenburg.
Hammenstedt was first mentioned in the year 1019.
After more than 100 years of communal independence with then 856 citizens it became part of the city Northeim on the 1. March 1974.

The Husum ponds with a big carp farm made the village Hammenstedt well-known in large parts of south Lower Saxony.
Every year in November on a Saturday before Penance Day the traditional fishing takes place as tourist attraction.
